Special Need Assistants Posts 2026/2027

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following standard and cover vacancies. All appointments are to Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board, but candidates will be assigned in the first instance to the schools listed below during the 2026/2027 academic year. The expected commencement date will be from 24th August 2026. A panel may also be formed for other vacancies in our post-primary schools and centres during the 2026/2027 academic year. Vacancies are subject to the posts not being required for the Department of Education Redeployment process.

• QQI level 5/6 component certificate in Special Needs Assisting or equivalent desirable.

• Experience working in an Autism Unit is desirable where applicable.

• Experience in a post primary setting is desirable or essential
